While the corona crisis has caused misery in most sectors, the corona crisis has brought the bicycle industry a lot of good. Many travelers who avoided public transport in the past year have purchased a bicycle. The Netherlands is really a cycling country, and the bicycles were therefore not available last year. Due to the corona crisis, bicycle sales in the Netherlands rose sharply in 2020. Last year, a total of nearly 1,1 million bicycles were sold in the Netherlands. Sales of electric bicycles increased by more than 30 percent last year. Last year, 547.000 electric bicycles were sold in our country. The turnover from bicycle sales was 1,65 billion euros last year, which is double compared to 2010. This is according to figures from research agency GFK on behalf of BOVAG and Rai Vereniging.

The traditional city bike is no longer very popular, sales have halved to 2011 percent since 26. The average price of an electric bicycle was around 2.259 euros last year. Due to the popularity of the electric bicycle, the average purchase price of a new bicycle in 2020 grew to 1.499 euros, 20 percent more than the year before. 75 percent of the total turnover from the sale of bicycles is from the sale of electric bicycles.
