KLM has started to completely renew the cabins of 14 Boeing 737-800 aircraft, for both Business Class and Economy Class. The renewed aircraft, which are mainly used on European flights, offer passengers more comfort and style and use less kerosene because the total cabin weight is 700 kilos less. The first renewed device has now been put into use. By March 2022, the interior of the last in this series of 737-800s will be completely transformed. All activities are carried out by KLM's Engineering and Maintenance division.

Comfortable, lightweight seats

The new, ergonomically designed seats for Business Class and Economy Class offer more comfort and extra legroom. The upholstery is made of mostly recycled leather. The seats are on average 20% lighter in weight, reducing the total cabin weight by 700 kilos. This results in annual savings of 58 tons of kerosene per aircraft and a reduction of 184 tons of CO2 emissions. For the 14 aircraft together, this means an annual saving of 812 tons of kerosene and a reduction of 2.576 tons of CO2 emissions.

KLM wants to offer its passengers on European flights even more comfort and style, while at the same time reducing CO2 emissions from flights. That is why KLM continues to invest in the product on board and in sustainability, so that we can continue to meet the expectations of our customers and emerge stronger from the crisis.

Style and convenience

All renewed Boeing 737-800s are equipped with WiFi, for which passengers can purchase vouchers on KLM's free portal on board. Passengers are always given the option to send free messages for 30 minutes by default. Each seat has its own USB connection that allows devices to be charged during the flight. Larger overhead bins provide more storage space on board. The LED mood lighting creates a fresh and soothing atmosphere - depending on the time of day, according to the KLM
