Time flies so fast, the school holidays are almost over. Last Monday, the North region was the first to start school again. Monday, August 30, region Midden will start again and the week after, Monday, September 6 will be the last region of South. The end of the school holidays means more traffic on the roads. You know it, young cyclists packed and bagged who cycle past each other to school with three or more people. At the start of the new school year, everyone has to get used to this again. According to Veilig Verkeer Nederland, many people do not know that many traffic accidents happen in the Netherlands right after the summer holidays. On average, in the weeks after the school holidays, 1 whole school class visits the emergency room every day. That is why Safe Traffic Netherlands has started the campaign: “Our schools have started again”.

With this campaign, for example, drivers are given tips on how to drive as safely as possible. These tips are: Drive at an appropriate speed, drive MONO (mobile-free), avoid school zones, work from home if possible, leave on time or take the bike instead of the car. Pupils are advised to check their bicycles before they start school again. The online VVN bicycle check goes through the important points to check whether your bike is still safe on the road. During the VVN practical traffic exam, which is for children from group 8, the bicycles are always checked for safety. The campaign runs for 3 weeks in each holiday region, from 1 week before to 2 weeks after school starts.
