Volvo Cars becomes the first carmaker to integrate its cars directly with devices that support Google Assistant, another step in the further collaboration between Volvo Cars and Google.

This planned direct integration provides the most seamless connection between Google Assistant and cars to date, allowing Volvo Cars customers to control functions in their car by giving voice commands to Google Assistant-enabled home and mobile devices. By linking their Volvo car to their Google account, customers can talk directly to Google in their car and remotely control various functions, such as warming up the car on a cold winter's day or locking the car.

The integration with Google Assistant reflects Volvo Cars' ambition to bring convenience and peace of mind to its customers, with the list of available commands continuing to grow in the future. Future features include charging scheduling, which allows customers to set specific times when they want their car to start charging, and more.

“Volvo Car Group was the first to introduce Google technology and services into our cars and we now want to be the first to fully integrate with devices that support Google Assistant – it's a natural next step in our partnership with Google. This integration sets us up able to vastly improve the customer experience as it gives customers the ability to easily and securely manage their car while at home or on the road, via any personal device that has Google Assistant.”

Volvo Cars also wants to support the company's ongoing development towards full electrification by integrating its cars with Google Assistant. As a result, it aims to introduce features that can help customers achieve the full CO2 emission reduction potential in their all-electric Volvos. In the future, Volvo Cars wants to make charging as easy as it is productive.

For more sensitive commands – like unlocking the car – a two-factor authentication process ensures that only the right people can hear or access the right information at the right time.

The functionality will gradually become available over the coming months to all Volvo drivers with Android-based infotainment connected to their Volvo Cars app and a device that supports Google Assistant, and in select areas where Google Assistant is available, it said. Volvo Cars.
