Behind the wheel Jan van Kasteren who, together with his wife Mien, never hesitated to do something for the refugees from the Ukraine. It Brabant taxi company De Meierij from Liempde will leave for Poland this week with relief supplies and then take refugees back to the Netherlands. After contacting the municipality of Boxtel in advance, which referred it to the COA, entrepreneur Jan van Kasteren found it too difficult a start and did not hesitate to immediately join the Amsterdam Fastlane Ukraine initiative.

"Tomorrow we will first go to Amsterdam to collect relief supplies and then we will leave for Poland. We think it is good to be able to do something."

All the support is fantastic. Jan ultimately wants to remove refugee Ukrainians from the area and take them to the Netherlands. Along the way, he is told where to take the refugees. The coordination is in full swing. The suffering is great. The sadness and despair can be read in the eyes on the images we see on the news every day. There is great willingness to receive refugees in the Netherlands. A number of security regions immediately responded to the government's call to arrange 2000 reception places per region for refugees from Ukraine. 

Fast lane Ukraine

The Amsterdam initiative Fastlane Ukraine coordinates numerous daily bus rides between the Netherlands and Ukraine to help the war-torn country. It's becoming a huge project, but it's really, really nice to be able to do something. The ride is organized by Fastlane Ukraine, an initiative that Zaman and his colleagues started last week to help victims of to help the war in Ukraine† The plan of approach: goods and medicines are taken from Amsterdam to Ukraine in vans and then – 'because we're here' – to take as many refugees as possible to the Netherlands.
