The sales of new caravans reached the highest level in the last 2022 years in the first quarter of 10, according to figures from BOVAG and RDC. The sale of used caravans by the specialist trade has grown to an absolute record level of 2022 units in the first quarter of 3.411, according to figures from BOVAG, Kampeer & Caravan Industrie (KCI) and RDC.

With 1.634 units, the highest number of new caravans delivered in a first quarter since 2022 was delivered in the first three months of 2012. The increase compared to the same period last year was more than 6 percent. The Fendt and Hobby brands each accounted for 21 percent market share, followed by Knaus and Dethleffs each with nearly 10 percent of the market. Eriba-Hymer completes the top-5 with a 9 percent share.

motorhomes

The number of new motorhomes registered in the first quarter fell from 668 last year to 574 in 2022, or a minus of 14 percent. As in the car industry, motorhome manufacturers - as buyers of the car manufacturers - are also facing delivery problems due to global logistical challenges, chip shortages and the war in Ukraine. Eriba-Hymer was the market leader in the Netherlands in the first three months of 2022 with a share of almost 14 percent. Adria follows with almost 11 percent, followed by Capron and Knaus in third place with both 9 percent market share and Chausson accounts for more than 6 percent of total sales.

Used caravans

Since RDC reports this data on a monthly basis (2007), not so many deliveries of second-hand caravans have been reported. Compared to the first three months of 2021, 8 percent more caravan used cars were delivered. In January and February, the increase was 26 and 16 percent respectively, while sales last March fell 4 percent compared to the same month last year. Nearly the same number of second-hand caravans were traded between private individuals in the first quarter as in the first three months a year ago: 6.043 units at the time compared to 5.992 this year.

Camper Occasions

Just like the sale of used caravans, the specialist trade also set an absolute record for the sale of second-hand campers. In the months of January, February and March of this year, more than 4.000 used cars were delivered in the first quarter of a calendar year for the first time. Sales rose from 3.802 copies last year to 4.079 last quarter, or a plus of more than 7 percent. As with caravan used cars, the specialist trade increased in January and February -by 25 and 27 percent respectively-, while sales numbers in March were 13 percent lower than in the same month a year ago. Trade in motorhome used cars between private individuals increased by almost 2022 percent in the first quarter of 2,5 to 3.956 transactions. It has never happened in a first quarter that more second-hand motorhomes were sold through specialist shops than were traded between private individuals, according to the report. BOVAG.
