The chance that the taxi will be able to drive again is small.

A seagull has found a very special breeding ground on the industrial estate near the Munckhof taxi company. On the hood of a taxi between the windshield wipers, the seagull decided to build a nest to incubate her egg.

Now that the Alkmaar gull has laid an egg, the nest may no longer be removed, because gulls are protected in the Netherlands. The chance that the taxi will be able to drive again is small. Employees and the local animal ambulance have already tried to remove the nest, but in vain. The taxi company therefore has to make do with one less taxi. Until the gull has hatched her egg and the gull family has flown away, the taxi is useless.

Alkmaar without seagulls is not Alkmaar. The city has been struggling with major seagull nuisance for some time. To protect their young they perform feint attacks. It concerns the nests and eggs of the lesser black-backed gull, herring gull and common gull. Given the protected status of the three gull species, the municipality has to comply with all kinds of regulations.

It is not the first time that nature amazes us. Earlier this month, oystercatchers built a nest in the center of a football field. The breeding season lasts from April to August.
