Price-free Holidays is seeing an exponential increase in holiday bookings from German airports. This started after the news about the crowds at Schiphol. The German government recently announced that the corona proof will no longer be needed this summer. “There is now nothing stopping the Dutch traveler from flying via Germany,” said Marc van Deursen, CEO of Prijsvrij Vakanties.

After the May holiday, the demand for bookings departing from Schiphol fell by 25%. These travelers are scattered across various regional airports, but the big winner is Germany. Düsseldorf (32%), Cologne (15%) and Weeze (3%) in particular benefit enormously from the chaos at Schiphol. In addition, it is also shifting towards Eindhoven (10%) and Rotterdam (7%).

With the abolition of the obligation to show corona proof in Germany, which was no longer necessary in the Netherlands for some time, the transit restrictions have now also been removed and we expect even more growth. “Previously, we mainly saw people from the east and south of the country flying from Germany, now more and more customers from other parts of the country are also departing via our eastern neighbours. Departing from German airports has been cheaper for some time than via the Netherlands. Not only flying but also parking is cheaper. The benefits for a trip run up to 400 euros per person. "We notice that customers are more often willing to travel extra distance in exchange for less stress," said Marc van Deursen, CEO of Price Free Holidays.
