New engines are in demand. Up to and including June of this year, 9.837 new motorcycles were registered. An increase of 6,4 percent compared to the first half of 2021 and also the highest number since 2009. This is apparent from figures from BOVAG, RAI Association and data center RDC.

According to the BOVAG and RAI Association, the motorbike is an increasingly full-fledged travel alternative that not only takes up less space, but can increasingly be used without restrictions throughout the year.

It is a trend that fits in with the picture of recent years, with more and more people taking the motorcycle or making the switch to this practical transport alternative. Thanks to the milder winters, the weather conditions are hardly an obstacle to getting out and about with the motorcycle and a unique opportunity to continue to ride relaxed all months of the year. This has translated into higher sales figures since the start of the corona crisis in 2020. With nearly 2022 new motorcycles so far, 10.000 has been a successful year for the number of new motorcycle registrations.

Used motorcycle market
In contrast to the market for new engines, the trade in used engines shows a slight decrease this year compared to previous years. Up to and including June, 77.226 used motorcycles have been sold compared to 80.452 in the same period last year. That is a decrease of 4 percent.

More motorcycle exams
Due to the corona crisis, the driving school industry has not been able to perform a large number of driving tests. In 2020, a total of 26.606 first A driving license exams were taken. Thanks to measures, the CBR was able to increase this number to 2021 exams in 33.021, of which 8.050 in the first five months. That number has increased to 2022 exams for the A motorcycle license taken in the first five months of 13.077. This is partly a catching-up effect, but possibly also partly due to the popularity of motorcycling. On average, between 2016 and 2021 (including the low 2020), approximately 7.700 exams were administered in the first five months, according to RAI Association
