The city of Antwerp and transport company De Lijn are negotiating about accessibility of the Blue Gate business park with public transport. Incubator BlueChem and essenscia flanders are asking. The climate-neutral business park is reserved for innovative companies with a clear ambition: linear growth thanks to circular working. Mobility alderman Koen Kennis (N-VA) wants to make sure that a new bus line there is not at the expense of another bus route in the city. “At De Lijn it is often the custom when a new line is added, this is at the expense of another line,” says Kennis.

According to ATV, a Belgian regional television channel for the region around Antwerp city, the city of Antwerp and De Lijn want to make the Blue Gate business park more accessible by public transport. Negotiations have been started between the city and the transport company for this. The city council thinks this will attract more people and companies to the new industrial zone south of the city.

It is being investigated whether the realization of a sustainable energy hub is technically and economically feasible, how it should be realized and whether a public-private partnership is necessary. The ultimate goal is a satellite location of the port for the distribution of sustainable energy, with an emphasis on hydrogen.

The circular business park Blue Gate also houses BlueChem, an incubator for start-ups and growth companies in the sustainable chemistry or circular economy. In March, DHL Express also opened a CityHub for the city of Antwerp. The American web store Amazon is building its first Belgian delivery center for parcels there. It is remarkable that Amazon is specifically targeting Blue Gate.
