In the past period, the municipality received signals about the quality of taxi transport.

Rotterdam is taking steps towards more transparent and fairer taxi transport and is taking action. In a city where the dynamics never stop, reliable and fair taxi transport plays a crucial role in the mobility of its residents and visitors. With the introduction of an innovative reporting point, equipped with QR codes and an online calculation tool for fare prices, Rotterdam is setting a new standard.

The launch of the Rotterdam Taxi Hotline, linked to every taxi via a unique window sticker with QR code, offers travelers a direct line to pass on both compliments and complaints about their taxi ride. This move is part of a broader strategy to improve the quality of taxi services in the city and ensure customers always pay a fair price. Via the official website Passengers can not only provide feedback, but also view the maximum fares for 2024 and calculate the costs of a journey in advance using a calculation tool.

Councilor Vincent Karremans emphasizes the importance of these developments: “I want at least 70 percent of taxi rides to be driven by meter by the end of this year, and the average fare price to be a maximum of 20% higher than the target price.” This ambitious objective reflects a clear vision on improving the taxi market in Rotterdam, focusing on both passenger safety and transparent pricing.

The need for these innovations was underlined by the results of a mystery guest study, conducted in the summer of 2023. This study, aimed at the taxi market, confirmed previous signals about the varying quality of taxi transport, including complaints about road safety, unfair fare prices and undesirable behavior at taxi ranks. In response to this, the Rotterdam Taxi Approach (RTA) has been developed, an extensive program that, in addition to the reporting point and window stickers, also focuses on providing information through information boards at taxi ranks and more intensive enforcement of the use of the meter.

These measures, combined with the accessible calculation tool and clear communication about rates, are an important step towards improved taxi services in Rotterdam. By making it easier for passengers to share their experiences, both positive and negative, the city is working to create an environment where taxi transport is synonymous with reliability, safety and fairness.
