The airline United Airlines recently announced that it is permanently phasing out the change fee on all standard Economy and Premium cabin tickets for travel within the US with immediate effect. And from January 1, 2021, any United customer will be able to fly free on standby on any flight departing on the day of their journey, regardless of ticket type or class of service, a first among US airlines, while MileagePlus Premier members will be able to enjoy a seat on a Confirm another flight on the same day with the same departure and arrival cities as their original ticket, provided a seat in the same ticket class is available.

United is also extending the waiver for new tickets issued through December 31, 2020 to allow unlimited changes at no cost. This policy applies to all ticket types issued after March 3, 2020 and is valid for domestic and international travel. With these enhancements, no US airline gives their customers more flexibility in booking - and changing - their travel plans than United Airlines. The new change fee policy applies to all standard Economy and Premium cabin tickets for travel within the 50 states of the US, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands and customers will not be limited in the number of times they change their flights.

Moreover, gives United customers more flexibility to change their flight on the day of their trip, so they can go home if a meeting ends earlier or can go on vacation for a few more hours. With the ability to have free same-day standby, customers now have the option to re-fly with the same departure and destination airports as their original itinerary if space is available upon departure. This enhanced option is available to all customers traveling within the US. And to and from international destinations starting January 1, 2021. Customers who want to switch flights can add themselves to the standby list in 30 minutes via United's award-winning mobile app, at united.com or at the airport.
