The consequences of the corona crisis have hit many companies hard, including the hospitality industry. Since last Monday, the rules for the catering industry have been tightened up again. In The Hague, the municipality reports in a press release that the temporary, larger terraces can also remain after 1 November. The Hague city council announced this. Earlier this year, The Hague gave catering entrepreneurs more space by allowing a terrace extension of 25%. This temporary arrangement has now been extended until May 1, 2021. Canopies are also permitted. For example, in the autumn and winter months, catering businesses are given extra space to exploit the capacity they lose indoors as a result of the corona measures.

Alderman Hilbert Bredemeijer (Outdoor area):

Partly thanks to the larger terraces in the summer, it has a large number of catering establishments The Hague be able to maintain income somewhat. We also want to offer those extra places in the open air again next season. Hopefully the catering entrepreneurs will also be able to hibernate with these larger terraces'.

Alderman Saskia Bruines (Economy):

'In the autumn and winter months a lot is again asked of catering entrepreneurs. Many work hard and with a lot of creativity. I trust that together we will succeed in enjoying safe and responsible enjoyment. Both in the shop and on the terrace '.

Comply with conditions

Catering entrepreneurs are asked to apply for a permit for the larger terrace from 1 November. This is important so that the interests of residents can also be taken into account and it is easier for enforcers to act in the event of excesses. The patio roofs that the municipality allows must also meet conditions. This is due to the fact that the winter season has more extreme weather conditions than the summer. In addition, the important rule applies that the canopies must be open on at least three sides so that there is sufficient ventilation. Hopefully the catering entrepreneurs can limit their damage a little bit by keeping these larger terraces standing.
