The Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS) is starting a practical trial with the so-called Quarantine Reischeck. This is an online resource that will support travelers in making the right behavioral choices after returning to the Netherlands in corona time. Travel to and from the Netherlands is currently strictly limited to necessary travel. This is the first message travelers see in the travel check. Strict quarantine advice applies to all incoming travelers. This is explained in more detail in the Reischeck. The trial among a first group of these travelers who travel for necessary reasons will start on January 7.

Research shows that a large part of the population subscribes to the urgent quarantine advice, but finds it difficult to follow up. This applies in particular to incoming and returning travelers. Only 27% of them adhere to the current quarantine measures. These currently mean that every traveler must go into quarantine for 10 days after arrival from almost every country. Even now that travel is very limited and at least until March 15, 2021 is only allowed in necessary cases, it is of the utmost importance that these guidelines are followed.

With the help of a practical, digital checklist, travelers can check what steps they should take when they return. This makes it easier for them to remain in quarantine. The Quarantine Reischeck can always be adapted to current policy measures. This way, a traveler always knows which measures are applicable at that time. In the trial, incoming travelers are asked via social media to use the Quarantine Reischeck

The Quarantine Reischeck does not store any personal or other data, but is only an aid in making the right choices. Travelers are immediately shown that travel is limited to necessary travel and are informed about the urgent quarantine advice before, during and upon return. The Quarantine Reischeck has been tested and refined on a small scale in recent weeks. Now follows a practical test aimed at a first group of incoming travelers. Based on the results of the trial, the Reischeck will be improved and completed so that this resource is available to all travelers. It will therefore be available in languages other than Dutch. The Reischeck will be widely applicable when travel is also possible again for holidays and family visits. Organizations in the travel industry are intensively involved in the implementation of the Quarantaine Reischeck.
