At most airports it has been very quiet last year in terms of flight movements. Commercial passenger flights were largely at a standstill. We owe this to the consequences of the corona virus worldwide. The corona virus still has us in its power and we are currently still in lockdown, just like many other countries. Groningen Airport Eelde (GAE) reports that with 39.387 flight movements in 2020, they were busier than in previous years. That is more than 23 percent more flight movements than in 2019. The increase in the number of flight movements is due to the fact that there were more training flights at Groningen Airport Eelde.

Meiltje de Groot, director of Groningen Airport Eelde: '' Despite the unprecedented year, we are pleased to see that the number of flight movements has increased significantly. The growth in teaching traffic is an important pillar for Groningen Airport Eelde. We offer the capacity and the possibilities, which underlines the social importance of our airport ”.

About seventy percent of all flight movements at Groningen Airport Eelde in 2020 come from training flights. KLM Flight Academy is one of those that has increased the number of flight movements by expanding their fleet. EFTC (European Flight Training Center), which is located at the airport and flights from flight schools in Teuge and Lelystad, also increased the number of flight movements at Groningen Airport Eelde. The busiest day of 2020 at Groningen Airport was Friday, September 11, on this day there were 376 flight movements. The months of June and September were the busiest months on the airport.
