The deal still has to be approved by regulators, but all knew that Transplace will be added to Uber Freight, the division that facilitates freight traffic. According to the Financial Daily Uber Freight contributed $301 million (+51%) to revenue. These revenue figures take into account a $600 million reservation to pay off drivers in the United Kingdom who were wrongly designated as freelancers by Uber.

Even without including this reservation in the turnover, the delivery branch is doing better than the taxi department in terms of turnover. The delivery branch generates more turnover than performing taxi rides. In key US cities, the demand for taxi rides is close to pre-pandemic levels but a driver shortage is looming. The takeover of Transplace is quite surprising. Last year, Uber divested its segment for self-driving cars and flying taxis. Still, Uber remains stuck in cases such as multi-billion dollar losses, lawsuits, competition investigations and striking drivers. All in all, these do not diminish the self-confidence of the largest taxi company in the world.

Transplace is a leading provider of managed transportation services based in Frisco, Texas. The company manages approximately $11 billion in freight spend through its network. Transplace was founded in 2000 as a sort of logistics consortium for large truck drivers and has since expanded its service offering through a mix of internal technology development and acquisitions. Shippers who use SAP, Oracle, JDA and other TMS or enterprise resource planning systems to manage their supply chains can now enter their data into Transplace's Platform Services via standard API connections. Customers log in to Platform Services through a secure web portal.
