From July 1, 2020 to December 31, 2024, the government has made the Subsidy for Electric Passenger Cars Private (SEPP) available to private individuals who want to buy or lease an electric car. The subsidy pot for new and second-hand electric cars for private individuals was recently opened again for this year. Last year, the subsidy pot was eagerly used and it was quickly empty. Last year, the government had 14,4 million euros available for new electric cars and 13,5 million for second-hand electric cars.

The subsidy budget for private individuals for this year is 71 million euros for new electric passenger cars and 20,4 million euros for used electric passenger cars. Nu.nl reported that on the first day around 17 p.m., more than 00 million euros in subsidy has been requested for the purchase or private lease of a new or second-hand electric car. If you buy a new electric passenger car as a private individual and meet the conditions, you will receive a subsidy of 12 euros from the government, with a second-hand electric passenger car this is 3.350 euros. As soon as you have concluded a purchase agreement, you can submit an application to RVO.

You do have to take into account certain conditions. The subsidy is available if the purchase agreement for the car was concluded on or after January 1, 2022. Also, the car may not be registered in your name before January 1, 2022. The 100% electric passenger car must have a range of at least 120 kilometers. You must have a valid residential address in the Netherlands. The new price of the electric car must be a minimum of 12.000 euros and a maximum of 45.000 euros. All conditions can be found on the website of RVO.
