Although Covid-19 affected operations and activities at Eindhoven Airport for most of the year, 2021 was not the same as 2020. Passenger numbers recovered in the second half of 2021: a total of 2,7 million passengers were welcomed on 21.704 flights. . In the meantime, the airport continued to focus on quality, sustainable development and the (living) environment.

Quality

In 2021 Eindhoven Airport made several important improvements to the passenger journey at the airport. A new entrance to the security zone offers more convenience and comfort. Natural materials and colors have been used, and there is more space. Furthermore, a new and fully covered walking route has been opened on the apron of the airport. Passengers are thus protected from rain when they walk to the plane or to the terminal. The corridor is also a gateway to the wider Eindhoven area: various icons and symbols used are inspired by the region.

Sustainability

For the seventh year in a row, Eindhoven Airport has been certified as 'Level 3+ Neutrality' in the Airport Carbon Accreditation program of ACI Europe (Airports Council International). This quality mark underlines that the airport operates in a CO2-neutral way. The airport has invested in the expansion of electric ground vehicles. A new tariff system has also been introduced that encourages airlines to use sustainable aircraft. Eindhoven Airport has also initiated the Power Up project, a testing ground (or learning environment) for electric flying. The aim is for the participating airports to gain knowledge about the feasibility, possibilities and handling of electric flights. This knowledge will help Eindhoven Airport to fully electrify its activities by 2030.
