The Foodvalley region continues the Mobility Covenant that was signed on September 30, 2019 by governments, educational institutions, interest groups and entrepreneurs. The covenant contains agreements to work together on sustainable mobility by encouraging car sharing, carpooling, bicycle sharing, bicycle use and the use of public transport.

Region Foodvalley, together with governments, entrepreneurs and educational institutions, is working on better regional accessibility. Because being easily accessible is an important precondition for the economic growth of the Foodvalley Region. That is why the Regional Accessibility Agenda 2018-2018 'Smart, sustainable and healthy' was drawn up in 2022.

Smart mobility
Last year, three projects were carried out in the context of smart(er) mobility:
1. The covenant partners have worked on sustainable mobility, supported by a mobility broker;
2. Focusing on smart and sustainable mobility at the KennisAs Ede-Wageningen;
3. Developing a Regional Traffic Desk.

The eight municipalities of the Foodvalley Region want to follow up on the Mobility Covenant (in particular to support employers) and the Regional Traffic Desk.

Employer approach
In the coming period, the Foodvalley region wants to support even more employers in taking measures for smarter and more sustainable mobility for their employees. The aim is for 2025% of companies with more than 50 employees to take measures for sustainable mobility before 50.

Examples of measures are:
• Developing a work-from-home policy (including a work-from-home pay per day);
• Stimulating the use of bicycles (including rewarding cycling kilometres, supporting the purchase of a bicycle or providing showers to freshen up);
• Discouraging car use (including regulating parking facilities or introducing a parking fee for employees who live and work within 10 kilometers);
• Stimulating the use of public transport (including reimbursement of the costs of public transport or of an OV bicycle to cycle from the station to work).

Traffic Desk Foodvalley Region
Also the Traffic Desk Food Valley Region gets a sequel. This desk was developed in 2019 and contains all regional mobility figures. In recent years, the Foodvalley Region Traffic Desk has proved indispensable for mapping and tackling regional accessibility issues. Now that the basic version of the traffic desk is available, the issue in the coming period will be how the desk can be further developed and how the mobility figures can be kept as current as possible.

The Foodvalley Region General Board has approved the proposals. The total costs involved are € 269.200. The largest part of this (€ 226.600) is paid by the provinces of Gelderland and Utrecht.
