The sale of electric passenger cars is on the rise. In the first half of 2022, the number of newly registered electric cars was 82,9 percent higher than in the same period in 2021. A total of 29.531 EVs have been registered this year up to and including June. This is evident from figures from the RAI Association, BOVAG and RDC. According to BOVAG and RAI Association, the growth is partly due to the extra budget for the private purchase subsidy in 2022 and the introduction of increasingly affordable electric passenger cars. The organizations argue in favor of extending the incentives for electric driving beyond 2025.

The share of electric in new sales of passenger cars will be 2022 percent in the first half of 19,2. That is almost 10 percent higher than in 2021, when the share was still 9,9 percent in the first six months. Partly due to the increase in the total budget for the private purchase subsidy this year, more private individuals are opting for an electric car. The share of private individuals (including private lease) was 47,81 percent at the end of June, compared to 26,3 percent in 2021.

Subsidy pot private individuals
The subsidy pot is empty for this year and private individuals have to wait until January 2, 2023. Then subsidy can be applied for again and the amount is 2.950 euros for a new private electric car. Creating a missed opportunity RAI Association and BOVAG. By letting go of the so-called annual payments for the subsidy, the budget earmarked for next year can be brought forward. In this way, more money will become available this year and even more motorists can already benefit from it.

Hybrid and plug-in hybrid
Not only fully electric cars are in demand. Motorists are also more likely to opt for a new hybrid or plug-in hybrid (PHEV). Thanks to their electrical assistance, these models are much more economical in practice, which means that considerable savings can be made on fuel costs and COշ emissions are reduced. This year, a total of 18.731 PHEVs were registered in the first six months compared to 15.926 in the same period in 2021 (+17,6 percent). Hybrid registrations are also on the rise. In the first half of 2022, the number of registrations rose by 24 percent to 16.648 compared to 13.392 in 2021. According to the RAI Association and BOVAG, the hybrid and plug-in hybrid drive technology is important in the transition to zero-emission road transport to save COշ for to bring the largest possible group of motorists within reach. The automotive industry is currently investing billions of euros to develop a wide range of other clean, fuel-efficient drive technologies in addition to being fully electric.

Addition for private use of a business car 2023
In order to stimulate the sale of electric cars in the business market, the addition for the private use of a business car will remain at 2023 percent in 16, just like this year. The ceiling to which this amount applies will be reduced from 35.000 euros to 30.000 euros. State Secretary Van Rij of Finance recently announced this. The use of tax incentives is now foreseen until the end of 2025. BOVAG and RAI Association urge to continue to stimulate the market for private and business electric cars after 2025. This will accelerate the development of the market for new and used electric cars and bring us closer to the climate targets Royal RAI Association.
