Antisocial behavior in traffic is a major annoyance for many people. Every day we read and hear reports about traffic assholes who flout the rules. Drivers who behave in an antisocial or risky way on the road run the risk of a mandatory course on behavior and traffic. Risky or antisocial driving behavior includes tailgating, cutting off other road users, driving through a red light or speeding. Participants of the course on behavior and traffic learn to participate in traffic in a safe way. The full name of the course is Educational Measure Behavior and Movement (EMG). You have to pay for this course yourself and it costs €1267. For many residents of the municipality of Rotterdam, nuisance in traffic is very recognizable. Cars that intentionally cause noise nuisance, groups of people hanging around cars, speeding and causing dangerous situations on the road.

“Over the past few years, we have already put a lot of effort into tackling traffic antisocial behaviour. We will continue to do so with measures such as confiscation, area bans, noise meters, physical interventions in traffic management and other such measures.”

Last summer, the municipality of Rotterdam, the Public Prosecution Service and the police launched a summer offensive against traffic nuisance and took action against antisocial behavior in traffic. The nuisance has become a lot less with this approach. This summer, too, measures will be taken to tackle antisocial behavior in traffic in the short and long term. The package of measures includes: closing streets, placing thresholds, noise measurements, closing parking areas and quays where street intimidation takes place, installing speed cameras, extra checks and entering into dialogue with the nuisance causes. The municipality also calls on residents of Rotterdam notification to avoid antisocial behavior in traffic, in this way the municipality can continue to work specifically on tackling this nuisance.
