The Dutch Railways (NS) are anticipating a busy month of September. Especially now that students from MBO, HBO and the university are allowed to take physical classes again and start using the train and other public transport en masse again. To cope with the crowds, extra trains are also used during rush hour, as was the case before the corona crisis.

The NS notices that the crowds on the trains are increasing again. Compared to before the crisis, the percentage of travelers on weekdays is currently about 60 percent. At the weekend this is 80 percent. The NS does not yet dare to give an estimate of the passenger flow in September. The NS said earlier that it was counting on a slight recovery in the second half of the year, because students will start traveling again and the number of social-recreational travelers is expected to grow further. The company believes that commuter traffic will still lag behind.

Extra crowds are also expected during the F1 weekend in Zandvoort from 3 to 5 September. During this long weekend, every five minutes between 7.30:22.00 and 10.000:300 there will be a train between Amsterdam Central and Zandvoort aan Zee. This allows up to XNUMX travelers to be taken to the races and back per hour. In order to be able to implement this timetable, NS deploys XNUMX extra staff every day.
